The CL220 measures AC current and NCVT via clamp and AC/DC voltage, resistance, and continuity via test-leads, and temperature with thermocouple. The meter features automatically ranging True Root Mean Squared (TRMS) measurement technology for accuracy. Additionally, a backlit LCD makes viewing in low light easy.

    I became a fan of Klein Tools after buying my multi screw driver that has been known to slay dragons. I was in need of a mutimeter and decided to go with a clamp. I am new to electronics so probably not needed. I always go down the rabbit trail when looking at tools so at once at some point in my searching i will have probably 15 tabs up, which in my case, get rather confusing. In this case wanted DC voltage for the clamp. I was thinking this had it because it said ac/dc but I misread. It says ac/dc but under clamp settings it says just AC. for a beginner that is a little confusing. But besides that it is accurate. I returned for the upgraded one with dc clamp but am starting to hink i should just get the regular klein multimeter instead. Too many options for an undecisive person like me. 🙁

    Best of the cheaper meters

    The no touch voltage detector is a bit too sensitive but that’s good if you are not a trained electrical person. (Always test before you touch). The clamp on ammeter is easy to use and is more accurate than the other meters in this price range. The voltage reading is RMS and has a high sample rate for any 60hz circuit testing. The temperature test is just a rough induction and has a2% swing over 0 to 100 degC. Continuity testing is good all round.On the whole a great meter for the money.

    What I needed

    I was pointed to this specific meter by a friend of mine. For some reason, this meter is the only one that will reliably give an accurate reading on a ground or a neutral wire. I have 3 other amp meters, all by reputable manufacturers in the industry, and not cheapos either. None of them will read with the same accuracy of this unit.Upon getting it, I tried it against 2 of my other meters at my home, and then at a local factory that I do things for. On the hot wires, all read pretty much the same. On a neutral or ground, the other 2 I have would show 0 or a very low reading. This one would show a realistic and higher number. For example, on a 240 volt single phase 5 HP motor that was running at approximately 60% load, the hot sides read 16.7 amps on all of the meters. but the natural on 2 of them showed 1.2 and 2.4 respectively. This Kline meter showed 9.7 which matched what it should be.

    Good meter, but it doesn’t measure DC amps, only AC.

    I wish I would have looked closer at the specs. The whole purpose of a meter with a clamp is to make current measurements easy. While it will still help if I need to measure AC current, it doesn’t do me any good when working on DC car and motorcycle or solar equipment 🙁

    Low resolution meter, be warned….

    I bought this particular meter because it is preferred by my employer. Figured it wouldn’t hurt to have a spare. I have multiple flukes without the clamp however am disappointed as this is a mid-level meter with a 2000 count display (4 digits max). I purchased a chinese meter for half the price with a 4k count and the same sample rate recently for less money and would rather take that to the field. Rather mad that a brand that prides themselves in quality would let this offshoot line of their brand be so dismal.

    Great Quality At An Affordable Price

    I needed a new meter and Fluke is very proud of their product so I didn’t want to spend that much. I know Klein has a good reputation for tools as I have been using them for years so I figured I’d try out their meter/amp probe. I have been very satisfied with it and have nothing negative to say about it or the seller. I would recommend this one to anyone needing a new meter.

    Stopped working after second use in a few months

    I used it a few times after I received it and put it away. Several months later, It just didn’t turn on anymore. I thought it was batteries, so I swapped to new ones. But that didn’t do anything.

    No DC current reading capability

    I was hoping to be able to use it on my home electrical panel as well as car batteries etc. but this device cannot read DC current I wish I paid more attention to the description but I assumed any meter can do both nowadays. Especially since it is able to measure DC and AC voltages.

    Je devais avoir un lecteur true RMS pour des travaux que je réalisais sur le système solaire d’un VR.Si c’était à refaire, je payerais un peu plus et je prendrais le modèle CL390 pour avoir les lectures de courant CC et la plage en ųA.
